In this article, we will try to discover, whether 508 has successfully passed the test of time and whether can be worn with newer competitors like VW Passat and Ford Mondeo, something that Peugeot successfully done it for the last three decades. On this test we had the most popular HDi engine with excellent 163 hp, which should meet the needs of even the most demanding drivers.

Changes in the refreshed model relate mainly to the front cover, which bears the signature design of the new 308 and act very aggressively, giving a dose of seriousness, without upsetting the whole elegance.Changes are minimal for sides and back end and they are related to altered light group in the rear, which shines very attractive at night. Overall, the changes contribute to much more dynamic and more premium appearance, which is characteristic that is required from more and more buyers in the segment.Perhaps changes are not so great, but, in our opinion, sufficient to ensure a place among the most attractive models in the segment.
On our test we had well known HDi diesel engine with a displacement of 1.997 cm3, power of 163 hp at 3,750 r / min and maximum torque of 340 Nm at 2,000 r / min. The figures show that for acceleration from 0-100 km h takes 9.2 seconds, while top speed is 225 km / h, which is respectable figures in the middle class and seems sufficient for business driving.In practice, the engine is extremely flexible and easily raises even at the lowest speed. Especially well suited for high speeds on the open road, pulling in the highest gear, and easy for overtaking larger vehicles.The fact that there is no need for frequently changing gears, gives a new dimension in driving and does the same calm, unlike petrol engines. The new HDi diesel even give us relatively nice sound when accelerating!
Peugeot 508 remains among the most dynamic models in the class! Handling is generally absent and easily enters in corners, like a much lighter car (despite heavier diesel front), while in marginal situations, the car returns to the desired line with easy subtracting the accelerator.Maybe for the steering lacks a little more feedback from the ground, but it is sufficiently accurate. Only the gear does not allow changing gears fast, but let's not forget that the 508 still is not a sports car ...In terms of comfort, beside Peugeot 508 is French car, it is not the car who is most comfortable in this class, which means that passengers will be a little uncomfortable. Firmer suspension may transmit a little more out of the way inside, but never to the level to be uncomfortable.Especially satisfying the fact that in the cabin, there is no vibration from minor bumps that usually spoil the enjoyment of driving.
Peugeot 508 e 4.830 mm long car with a wheelbase of 2817 mm. This comes almost a class above, but more important for the buyer, offers much, much space inside.Sitting is relaxing on the front and rear seats, with impressive levels of comfort for knees, shoulders, and head. The boot has 473 liters (515 with a set of tire repair kit), which is below average in the class, but more than enough for a family of four.
Diesel is certainly more economical when it comes to consumption, which is of 8,5-9 liters in town with aggressive driving or in extreme fuss or to a minimum of 7.5 liters with cool driving or when there is not much fuss (7.2 liters factory data).Outdoors, at speeds of 120 km / h, can be easily reached from 5-5.5 liters or less than 5 liters if drive on highway at speeds of 90 km / h. Speeds over 120 km / h, consumption goes up to 6.5 liters. In short? One of the most economical diesels, especially taking into account the performance offered!
