Suzuki Baleno SHVS Hybrid Test

The newest model from Suzuki now comes in a "mild" hybrid version and on this Suzuki Baleno SHVS Hybrid Test, you can see that this model with promising features like low consumption and cheaper maintenance would be perfect for the every buyer.

But as always when we test a car, only cutting costs are not enough for a car to get high scores. In fact, there are many other elements that the car must meet to satisfy the subtle flavors of the buyer in low and compact class. Both classes are mention for one simple reason -  New Suzuki Baleno SHVS is a car on who dimensions are closer to the lower classes, but it's offer  space as a compact class car, even better than many competitors in this segment. Accordingly, Suzuki Baleno SHVS is a car which is directly aimed at the every buyer, who always require more space and lower cost.

Suzuki Baleno SHVS Hybrid Test

What type of hybrid is Suzuki Baleno SHVS?

Suzuki Baleno SHVS is a new hybrid version, which has an integrated starter generator, lithium-ion battery that provides power and which is charged via through in case of braking or releasing the accelerator pedal, and of course gasoline engine with a displacement of 1.2 liters with 90 hp that has a high thermal efficiency. Suzuki calls this hybrid "mild" because the integrated starter generator uses at departure only to assist the gasoline engine. Yes, that means Suzuki Baleno SHVS can not drive only electricity, but on the other hand, the whole system is cheaper and easier to maintain because there are no oversized batteries that would have been too expensive to change and in general the system is simplified, meaning that there are fewer parts which could be faulty. According to Suzuki, the hybrid drive reduces the consumption on 1.2-liter petrol engine from 5.3 liters to 4.7 liters in the city, which is a pretty big change. Hybrid cars already have several other benefits such as free parking in many cities, which further reduces the cost of their use.

Suzuki Baleno SHVS Hybrid Test - Design

Baleno is one of those cars that look much better in person than on the photos. "Liquid Flow" design that reminds of a fluid in motion gives a certain elegance  to the  Suzuki Baleno SHVS, which is refreshing in the class where sports designs are already the norm. The tested model with  blue color and the aluminum wheels looks modern and fresh. We can say that this design will appeal to more buyers because it is not polarizing and therefore liable to a wider range of buyers - both younger and older.

The interior is also refreshed over other models of Suzuki - front panel has a very modern design, for which the largest contribution centrally have the mounted 7-inch display, here also contribute and silver detailing and use of plastic with equal textures throughout the cabin.

Suzuki Baleno SHVS Hybrid Test - Performance

According to the Suzuki, the hybrid model has equal performance as the model with 1.2-liter petrol - to hundred kilometers acceleration takes 12.3 seconds while top speed is 180 km / h. However, in driving, we noticed little difference. The hybrid model raises a little easier from lower revs, that thanks to the electric motor (starter generator) petrol engine not crackling at low revs. The difference is mainly felt in urban conditions, while on the open road performance are the same as the petrol model.

Suzuki Baleno SHVS Hybrid Test

If we consider in which class this car belongs these are still excellent performance - a lot of competitors have less than 90 hp and bother the open road and highway, something Suzuki Baleno SHVS makes it very successfully. However, for those who want maximum performance, we recommend model BOOSTERJET 1.0 turbo petrol engine with 112 hp that we had the opportunity to try it for a short time and who literally will stick to the seat under acceleration, and goes fast
even to 200 km / h.

Suzuki Baleno SHVS Hybrid Test - Manageability / Comfort

Suzuki Baleno is lying on a completely new platform, which allows the Japanese compact car to weigh just 865 kg in the model who is less equipped and with the 1.2 engine, the Suzuki Baleno SHVS weighs just 990 kg. This is impressively low for a model of this size, which not only contributes to improving performance and driving characteristics, but also to reduce fuel consumption and emissions.

Suzuki Baleno SHVS Hybrid TestBaleno has a nice solid body, which is a big help for engineers to make the suspension softer without much loss of driving features. Of course, from the Baleno we can't expect sporty dynamics, for sporty driving pleasure, there are many sportier models in the class, but driving properties are still very respectable. The car holds solid cornering and easily handle rapid changes of direction. We have only one small note about the  management, it is  not sufficiently precise and direct, it is more focused on easy handling, rather than on precision mastering the bends.

Suzuki Baleno SHVS Hybrid Test

On the other hand, comfort is very high, especially if we consider the in what class is Suzuki Baleno. The car handles great with  smaller and larger bumps and even the major holes don't shake the car, making it suitable for a soft ride of bad urban roads and surprisingly comfortable on long journeys. This is precisely one of the factors that we believe to be decisive for family buyers - comfort for them will be more important than driving dynamics.

Suzuki Baleno SHVS Hybrid Test - Refinement

Like almost every Suzuki and the Baleno model has an extremely refined mechanics. Particularly impressive engine that operates quietly and without vibration and does not meet the cabin even at higher revs. Great praise for the Start & Stop system, which is an integral part of SHVS hybrid - this is the quietest and most refinement system what we have tried so far, including cars of the highest class. Suzuki finished a great job here - the driver and passengers will not be able to detect when the engine is off or on.

Suzuki Baleno SHVS Hybrid Test

Sound insulation around the city is also solid and the ride is fairly quiet, but on the open road is heard a little more sound from the wind and tires, although the cabin isn't that noisy.

Suzuki Baleno SHVS Hybrid Test - Space / Convenience

Suzuki Baleno is a car that is less than 4 meters, ie its length is only 3.995 millimeters, dimensions what we can't notice inside in the  cabin. Not only it is wider than other cars with such dimensions, but the cabin can offer a venue to envy compact class cars that are even 30 centimeters long. Particularly impressive is the space on the rear bench - there could easily accommodate two taller adults.
Suzuki Baleno SHVS Hybrid Test

The boot also did not disappoint - there are 355 liters, which is more than all cars and low class alongside the most popular car in the compact class. His form is also correct and there are a double floor thanks and when we take down seats we have a completely flat floor. The trunk is a little shorter, that most of the volume and depth, but it's still logical since Baleno is actually quite a small car. Throughout the cabin, there are quite a lot of places for disposal trinkets given to the class and all of the dimensions of the vehicle.

Suzuki Baleno SHVS Hybrid Test - Ergonomics

Sitting in Baleno it feels like in a vehicle in upper class - the driver hasn't surrounded  with too much plastic around and that gives a comfortable, airy feeling. The ideal driving position is fairly easy to find, but we would like the touchscreen to be a bit closer to the driver, because if you like to use it you should move the body forward.

Suzuki Baleno SHVS Hybrid Test

However, using the touch screen is a real pleasure, because it works  like expensive tablets with powerful processors. Each entry in the menu is fast and smooth animations, which gives a modern accent that can not boast a single car in the class, even in the higher classes. In fact, this multimedia system is one of the fastest that we used.

Suzuki Baleno SHVS Hybrid Test - Equipment

All cars in the range of Suzuki are very much equipped. In fact, almost no competitor comes with such equipment in their models, and this is especially true for Baleno. On start comes with leather power steering with audio controls adjustable height, radio with CD + MP3 + USB with 6 speakers, Bluetooth, LED daytime running lights, "Guide me light" lights that stay on after stopping the vehicle, automatic lights, Central remote, trip computer, electric mirrors, heated, power front windows, an indicator of tire pressure, shared 60:40 rear seats, immobilizer, pollen filter, alloy wheels sized 16 inches in BOOSTERJET engine, rear spoiler door, chrome detailing and fro, and set about repairing tires. It is rich and safety equipment - six airbags, ABS + EBD, ESP, TCS, Isofix child seat preparation and assistance in sudden braking.

The hybrid model still comes exclusively with the richest equipment level GLX, which includes plus LCD display dashboard color size of 4.2 inches, 7 inch touchscreen, automatic digital climate control that adjusts in depth system entry and keyless start, rear tinted thermal insulation glass, front armrest, chrome exterior and interior door handles, chrome trim on windows, turn signal mirrors, electric rear windows, start / stop system and heated seats. This model boasts with safety equipment level which is much higher than any other model in this class, even in the compact and middle class - comes with RBR radar support braking and adaptive Cruise Control.

Suzuki Baleno SHVS Hybrid Test - Security

Suzuki Baleno SHVS has available  a system that actively assists the driver when driving or RBS (Radar Brake Support) automatically detects vehicles in front of you at speeds above 5 km / h and responds with: 1) an audible warning to the driver; 2) increase the braking force; 3) automatic vehicle braking and adaptive cruise control that automatically maintains the speed of the vehicle ahead. Despite this system, the new Baleno is available with full ESP stability control and six airbags still in the initial model. In the test of EuroNCAP, Baleno earns 4-star under the new, more stringent tests, which is a solid result.

Suzuki Baleno SHVS Hybrid Test

Suzuki Baleno SHVS Hybrid Test - Conclusion

Baleno is impressively designed car by Suzuki and Suzuki with this model definitely has a winner. Its features particularly suit many potential buyers - the body is small, which means it will be easier for parking around town, but the cabin is extremely spacious and the front and rear seats and the boot room for longer trips. Baleno in driving is also a great hit for our roads - the suspension is softer and better absorb frequent potholes and bumps.

The hybrid model is particularly recommended because of reduced consumption in urban conditions where we believe buyers will often drive this car, and it has reduced maintenance costs. It comes with a very low cost and is featured as a model of the upper classes, with particular emphasis on large equipment safety.

Advantages:
• Extremely spacious cabin
• Large rack
• Comfortable ride
• Quiet and refined engine and hybrid drive
• Super low consumption in city
• Rich equipment
• Equipment Safety
• Low cost

Disadvantages:
• A little more noise from the wind and tires on the open road
• The central display is a bit out of the reach of your hand
• The management is not sufficiently direct and precise

New Honda Civic hatchback 2017  - Design

As we can see, the new generation has retained the design forms and acts as an evolution of the previous model, but now features a more dynamic and longer form until the entire design is more aggressive on several levels. The biggest difference is the interior, which unlike the previous two generations, is now simpler with fewer buttons and features a digital instrument panel. Well, the interior is a big plus for this model, we think that a lot of potentials buyers will like the interior.
